Tape Loop Orchestra – Onde Sinusoïdale Et Bande Magnétique

In his latest release under the moniker Tape Loop Orchestra (TLO), Andrew, a versatile musician with a rich history in various genres, showcases his mastery of minimalism and entrancing sonic landscapes. Using a simple setup of a test tone generator, tape machines, and effects, Andrew crafts a mesmerizing experience. The album, titled “Onde Sinusoïdale Et Bande Magnétique,” explores sustained oscillations, layered with carefully chosen tunings of sine drones that organically evolve, creating new rhythms and harmonic structures.

Ian Hawgood / Field We Found – Upward Eyes / Kindred

Handstitched – August ’22

Always nice to see a new label ping up on our radar. In this case ‘Handstitched’ bringing a beautiful DIY feel to this split release between Fields We Found and Ian Hawgood. 50 copies on mini CD-r and sage green cassette with hand-made packaging, tape O-cards and unique designs for each CD package. Very nice indeed!

Goes without saying, the two artists both bring carefully considered, slow moving compositions to the fore, balancing cloud-like chords with twinkling, glitchy textures.

T. Jervell – (K) En sommerdag i Kroken (Ruter)

Picked this up on Bandcamp last week after casually scrolling over a post on the Ciat-Lonbarde FB group. Glad I clicked, as what awaited was a magical sound world, weaving electronic and found sounds into a tapestry of molten and frazzled textures. In parts it reminds me of Cornelius, especially the wry humour.

The nerd in me enjoyed listening out for the signature Ciat-Lonbarde sounds, especially noticeable on the aliased destruction of samples the Cocoquantus imparts on everything it touches. However, this shouldn’t detract from what is a really original, fun and considered body of work.

OBOLE – RELEASE: 6TH AUGUST 2021

Always a sucker for the DIY (is there any other kind?) slo-mo industrial / EBM vibe so this one was set to go down well. TR707 drums in various stages of distortion accompanied with Gameboy minimal synth lines for eight tracks of body moving toughness. In true modern underground style only available on cassette and only through Bandcamp.

Woodford Halse – Upcoming Cassette and CD Drops!

It’s hard to keep up with all the amazing DIY labels these days. Woodford Halse is one particularly prolific outfit, releasing a couple of tapes and CDs every month. Here’s a quick round up of what to expect in June/July 2021.

As usual, lots of music from the label features in our monthly radio show. Pick of the bunch for me is the Xylitol tape ‘Inside a Stone of Cream there is a Language’, with bubbling resonant synth tracks like Popcorn evoking some serious Raymond Scott vibes and mellow library-esque moments with Business Direct.

Consider this post a heads up, as generally these releases sell out on pre-orders, so stay frosty people and keep an eye on their Bandcamp.
